The Jumo 213 is a further development of the Jumo 211 and was designed by Dr. Lichte. It was smaller than the Jumo 211, performed a higher turn rate and offered more power. It had a three shifted gear and a hotwater cooling system. The initial production type Jumo 213A became available in 1940, but it takes up to 1943, when the A-1 series went into production. The monthly production rate during 1944/45 was about 500 engines. Like the Jumo 211 production, also the Jumo 213 production was distributed among different facilities at Dessau, Magdeburg, Koethen and Leipzig (detailled production figures see here).

The A-series mountings within the aircraft were fully compatible with the Daimler-Benz DB603 engine. The B-series had more power by a higher load pressure. The C-series got a provisioning for a canon to fire through the airscrew shaft. The Jumo 213D was equipped with a multidrive loader. This subversion never went into serial production.

The E-series was fitted with a three-speed two-stage supercharger and induction cooler. It was specially designed for high altitude missions. The E0 and E1 were designed for fighter and destroyers, while the EB-series was used within battle fighters. At the end of WWII the coupling of two Jumo 213Es was intended for an engine for the final America bomber designs of 1945. However, due to the end of WWII these designs did not leave project status.
The F-series was similar to the E-series, but without induction cooler. The Jumo 213E/F were used as high altitude engines within Ju 188, Ju 388 and Fw190. The J-series was only projected. Instead of three valves per cylinder the Jumo 213J got four valves. The Jumo 213S was designed specially for missions in low altitude. The S-series was also only in project stage at the end of the war. The final T-series project offered a turbo supercharger.

Aircraft Types equipped with Jumo 213:

Blohm & Voss BV P193
The Jabo aircraft BV P 193 should be equipped with a Jumo 213A.
Finally this aircraft did not leave project status and was dropped.

Dornier Do 435
Another project which did not come into prototype status was the Dornier Do 435.
This aircraft should be equipped with a Jumo 213 or the later Jumo 222.
Finally this aircraft design was also stopped by the RLM.

Dornier Do P.247
The Dornier project P247 was a jabo aircraft.
It should be equipped with the also projected Jumo 213T.

Dornier Do P.252
Another project from Dornier was the P252 night fighter.
It should be equipped with two Jumo 213 engines.

Focke Wulf Fw190 D
While prototypes and production series A to C were equipped with BMW 801
the Fw190D-1, D-2 and D-9 was the first aircraft to be equipped with a Jumo 213A-1 since 1942..
But only a few of this high altitude fighters were built.
The Fw190D-11 was equipped with the Jumo 213J,
while the high altitude fighter D-12 series got the Jumo 213E-1 since 1944
and the battle fighter D-13 was equipped with the Jumo 213EB also in 1944.
Further series again were equipped with BMW801 engines.

Focke Wulf Ta152
Due the good reputation of the Jumo 213 from the Fw190D series,
this engine was also selected on the Ta152
While Ta152A and B were equipped with Jumo 213A or Es,
the Jumo 213E-1 was selected on all Ta 152 by subseries E.

Junkers Ju87F
Also the Ju87 was generally equipped with Jumo 210 engines,
the Ju87F was projected with a Jumo 213, but this series was never built.

Junkers Ju88G2 to G10, H3 and H4
Also the BMW801 was used as the main Ju88 engine selection beside Jumo 211
the night fighter versions Ju88G6 to G10 were designed with a Jumo 213A-1 or E-1.
Only a few of these aircraft were built in 1944.
With Ju88H-3 and H-4 two longrange surveyers were designed with Jumo 213As.
Only single aircraft were built.
Finally the Ju88S-3 and Ju88T-3 were designed with Jumo 213A-1
but both projects were abandoned before prototype stage.

Junkers Ju 188A, C, D, S, T
Also the initial production series Ju188E and F was equipped with BMW801
the Ju188 got the Jumo 213A-1 as soon as it became available in 1943.
The Ju188A, C and D got subseries Jumo 213A-1
The high altitude bomber Ju188S-1 was equipped with the Jumo 213E-1
as well as the surveyer version Ju188T-1.
