Pirna (Junkers) 020

ZTL Bypass engine, 3700kp

Pirna 020/B

The Pirna 020 was under development since 1960. It was a ZTL engine with 3700kp and was finally intended for all 1960 GDR passenger airliner designs like the Baade 152, the Baade 155 and the Baade 154. This engine was a completely new Approach for the Pirna Team with its Bypass airflow and the two shafts for high and low pressure stages.

In 1960 at least the three stage low pressure compressor and the high pressure compressor were built for compressor testcell runs. No complete engine was assembled until the General stop for the GDR aviaton industry in 1961, when also the Pirna 020 development was stopped.
